The Lake Street improvement project is the culmination of plans adopted by the Village Board, some dating back to the mid-1990s. A unified streetscape design was developed in 2015 to lay the groundwork for streetscape and other infrastructure improvements that are currently being planned for Lake Street.

Project goals are to improve traffic circulation and capacity, enhance pedestrian and bicycle linkage between retail districts, replace aging roadway and utilities, promote private investment and economic development, and strengthen Lake Street’s role as the community’s central tourism and retail corridor.

The project scope entails utility work between Kenilworth Ave. and Euclid Ave.; streetscaping and resurfacing from Harlem Ave. to Euclid Ave.; and street resurfacing from Euclid Ave. to Austin Blvd.

As so much has changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction schedules have been revised to take advantage of opportunities to expedite and/or modify the scope of work in order to minimize its impact to business districts and community residents.
