Strengthening Lake Street’s role as the community’s central tourism and retail corridor

After several years of planning and community input, a streetscape improvement project is getting underway with the goals of improving traffic circulation and capacity, enhancing pedestrian and bicycle linkage between retail districts, replacing aging roadway and utilities, promoting private investment and economic development, and strengthening Lake Street’s role as the community’s central tourism and retail corridor.

Shoppers and visitors are encouraged to continue "business as usual" during construction. Sidewalk access to businesses and parking garages will remain accessible throughout the project. Major annual events like Thursday Night Out, Day in Our Village, and the Oak Park Farmer's Market will take place as scheduled. Any changes to parking information will be posted, along with alternate suggested routes or parking options. Ongoing construction updates will give visitors and residents notice of project timelines and progression.
